Lifestyles & Physical Effects

Sitting all day

You get in your car first thing & drive to work; sit at a desk all morning, walk a few paces to your office 'rest room' at lunch time, walk back to your desk until it's time to get back in your car again to drive home; stand for a short time to cook a meal before retiring to the sofa to sit in front of the TV all evening, then go to bed lying down for a further 7-8 hours. This type of lifestyle, aside from receiving no vigorous activity, which directly effects weight management, our cardiovascular fitness and a whole host of other things, also actually impacts on our back and core muscles, making them weaker and tighter eventually leading to poor posture, balance, and back pain. Exercises to alleviate these symptoms, which we can incorporate throughout the day at work or at home, can massively reduce the negative effects of just sitting all day.

On your feet all day

Are you on your feet all day? Maybe you stand for long hours in one place such as a hairdresser or shopkeeper or perhaps your constantly walking around all day such as in a supermarket shop floor or hospital or maybe you are a full time mum! This type of lifestyle although may help you burn some calories if your walking around, it also greatly impacts on your knee and ankle joints causing muscle stiffness and so aches and pains. This is particularly true if you are standing in one spot all day. Exercises that will help you to strengthen your muscles not only of the foot and calf muscles but also of your core muscles to enable stabalization of your core overall and so strengthening the back, improving posture, mobilising your lower limbs again are excellent in reducing those aches and pains. Mobilising our muscles also helps to relax our muscles too!

On the go all day

Your 'on the go' all day. Perhaps you travel round the country for work, or go on regular business trips, staying overnight in hotels and feel you have no time or place to exercise. Maybe your job entails being constantly 'on the go' working in your local community, travelling from one job or appointment to the next. You may feel 'stressed out' or at worse sometimes even 'burnt out', never stopping for any real rest time until you go home at the end of the day. Knowing how to exercise for cardiovascular and muscular strength either at a place unfamiliar to you and fitting it into a busy time schedule is a major step towards increasing your energy so you feel less tired, less stressed, improving your concentration and so overall performing better at what you do is an achievement we can all make very easily.

Working shifts

You work shifts. Early's all week, late's another and then nights until it all rolls round to early's again. Your in a rollercoaster, losing sleep from an irregular work pattern, eating at all different times sending your digestive system into chaos. You might feel sick, tired or even exhausted, suffer a loss of concentration, and maybe at times feel apathetic. You may also feel that you do not have time to fit in exercise or be able to join any fitness class or club because your schedule is always changing. Finding fitness solutions for you to incorporate in your day whatever your shift is possible and very important to improve your overall health due to the harmful disturbances shifts can cause on the human body such as fatigue, sickness, mental disturbance such as depression, and research suggests a higher risk to cardiovascular diseases can occur. Women in addition, maybe affected menstrually due to the ever changing disruption to the body's natural rythmic cycle. And of course not forgetting the importance of your social life!

Virtual Athlete

Your a virtual athlete! You exercise most days, you think you'd probably don't need a personal trainer. Fitness Dilemmas

""I've got no money"

The biggest perceived hurdle there is aside from lack of motivation. You may feel personal training is completely out of reach, its too expensive or even a rip off. The thing to remember here is, using a personal trainer is an investment in yourself and no amount of money would be wasted when it comes to the improvement of your own health. Good health is everything and cannot be measured in money! In addition, personal training does not have to be forever! You may find a few sessions enough to get you on track or you may have a slightly longer term plan to obtain a good level of fitness and then carry on on your own. You will learn alot about fitness no matter how many sessions you take.

"I can't get there"

Don't worry, Trish will come to you! For all 1-1 personal training, Trish will do the travelling for you.

"I feel so demotivated"

Motivation and motivating others is the key element to a personal trainers repitoire of skills. If your personal trainer cannot motivate you, then he/she isn't much good and your best off looking for another one. Trish can also help you look at ways to motivate yourself!

"It's too embarrassing"

Personal training is great for maintaining some privacy and Trish will never make you feel silly.

"I can't use the equipment"

This is an entirely understandable fear but one that can easily be overcome through personal training. Learning correct technique and form is vital for the exercise(s) to be effective and safe and another massive part of any personal trainers job.

"I haven't got the time"

Time is an issue for many of us, as seen in our various lifestyle choices, but exercise and physical activity more generally can be incorporated into any lifestyle. Trish works weekends and can offer some flexibility during the week so this should not be a problem.
